How large is the Shadowbox Live building?

The venue seats around 318. It does not have a mezzanine, however the floor does have tiers. It is roughly 30,000 square feet (compared to Easton’s 8,000), but we haven’t lost the intimacy of our traditional environment. Larger offices, prop and costume storage, and rehearsal spaces also comfortably accommodate our growing needs. The stage resembles the stage we had when we were located at Easton but is much larger and deeper.

What types of shows are you doing?

Shadowbox Live continues to do the sketch comedy and rock n’ roll shows it has become known for. However, we have expanded programming to include more shows for our Musical Series, a movie night, an open-format venue that will offer a variety of productions. (Click on “Shows” to see what all is going on)

Why The Brewery District?

We are committed to the Brewery District as a neighborhood and an entertainment destination. We are also working to create a synergy between the other downtown arts organizations as well as our neighbors in the Brewery District. In fact, our very own Julie Klein is now President of the Brewery District Trade Association. It is our goal to make Columbus known nationwide as a vibrant artistic nerve-center and not just Buckeye Country.

Reservations and Seating

How do I get tickets to see a Shadowbox Live show?

Shadowbox Live doesn’t issue “tickets.” We set up a pre-paid, non-refundable reservation for you. You can make a reservation either by calling our box office at 614.416.7625, stopping in at 503 S. Front Street and buying them in person or by going to our website and clicking on get tickets.

Tip #1: Make the reservation yourself and have the people in your party reimburse you or have people in your party call in separately to make reservations with their own credit cards. Tell the box office that you want to be linked together. We’ll note that you all want to sit near each other on our reservation list and you won’t have to pick up the ticket tab for the entire group.

Tip #2: A reservation gets you a seat in the house but not a specific seat. Everyone’s reservations are paid in advance so you’re all on an even playing field. Theatre seating is assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
However, if you have a group of 8 or more and you wish to hold your seats together in one section go to www.shadowboxlive.org/event-planning or call 614-416-7625 ask for Amy Lay.

How does the seating work?

As soon as you arrive, check in at the box office located in The Backstage Bistro. We require that you have half your party in attendance before we assign you your “check in” number. Your “check in” number reserves your position in line without having to stand in a line. Take advantage of the restaurant / bar atmosphere and have a drink/appetizer while waiting for your number to be called. We begin assigning numbers around 30-45 minutes prior to house open depending on the number of reservations that night.

We will call the numbers in small increments. Once your number is called, all members of your party will come to the front and file in between the stanchions. At that point you will be directed to one of the box office windows where we will then check you in off the reservation sheet, accept any outstanding gift certificates, tickets and/or payments and you will be given your theatre seat assignment.

What if you call my number and some members of my party haven’t arrived yet?

You have two options.

1) You can get seated in the theatre with the half of your party already present and reserve the seats at your table for those still outstanding.. Once the rest of the party arrives they will need to go to the box office, get a check in number and go through the same process you did. HOWEVER you will all be sitting together! Your early arrival has reserved their seats, so we will just send them directly to your table.

2) OR you can wait in the Bistro for your entire party. Once your party is assembled file in line and we’ll send you in together.

What if I am eating in the Bistro and you call my number?

No problem! Feel free to finish your meal and close out your tab. Once you’re ready to go into the theatre immediately file in between the stanchions and we’ll direct you to the box office window for check in. Additionally, feel free to have your server place your items in “to go containers” and finish your meal in the theatre!

What if I have special seating needs?

Just let us know when you make the reservation. If you have folks in wheelchairs or who cannot negotiate the stairs to the upper tiers, tell us that so we can plan a bit in advance of your arrival. Give us the all the info we need upfront so we can ensure you have a good experience!

Can anyone attend a Shadowbox Live show?

Absolutely. We give our shows a “suggested R” rating for adult comedy and language but we do not discriminate at the door. Also, our holiday shows are always toned down – check the show specific page for details!

I’ve seen “reserved seating” at Shadowbox Live, how do I get that?

The only way to get a reserved section for your party is to book a banquet with us. You’ll select from a variety of our amazing catered banquet options and get a package price. Simply go to : www.shadowboxlive.org/event-planning and START PLANNING!

What’s the difference between the Backstage Bistro and Shadowbox Live menus and dining experience?

Each venue has a unique atmosphere and experience. Both menus offer our amazing pizzas, salads and sandwiches. The Shadowbox Live menu offers our famous 3 Cheese bread, nachos, Mt Shadowbox, etc. The Bistro Menu has our exclusive Crostini appetizers, paninis, stew, and expanded salad and pasta options.

Shadowbox Live:
The Shadowbox Live menu is made to order. That means that we start making your food from scratch when the order is placed. Due to the nature of our kitchen set up, each item will come out to you when it is ready, it won’t sit under a food lamp keeping warm and drying out while the rest of the order is completed. You can order food before the show and at intermission. There is no service during the show itself or after.

Tip #1: With the exception of our own Backstage Bistro, we don’t allow outside food in, including birthday cakes. If you want to have a cake for your party we can do that for you. Click on “Parties” on to see everything that we have to offer.

Tip #2: We have to stop making hot food at 15 minutes before the show so the kitchen staff can start getting into costume. You can still order plenty of stuff but it won’t be a meal that has to be prepared in an oven.

Additionally you are likely to be served by one of the performers themselves and are able to enjoy the pre-show screens and special occasions telegrams.

Backstage Bistro:
The Backstage Bistro has a very New York atmosphere with curtains and brick walls; white linens and china; and offers a more traditional restaurant experience. Again, the Backstage Bistro has an expanded menu of our exclusive Backstage Bistro Crostini appetizers, salads, paninis, stew, and pastas and features many products from local food artisans such as Angry Baker, Jeni’s Ice Cream, Sweet Thing Gourmet just to name a few.

What about drinks?

We like our liquor license so bring your valid ID if you want to order from our bar.

We’ve got a full service bar but do not make frozen drinks. Shadowbox Live serves beverages to enhance your experience but we know when enough is enough and we won’t be subtle about telling you. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. This includes and is not limited to people who are intoxicated and exhibiting inappropriate and / or disruptive behavior.
