Audition Specifics
Music
If you play a primary instrument:
If you are proficient on an instrument, please prepare a one-minute piece you feel showcases your talent. Everyone needs to bring their own instrument except for those who might play piano or drums. For all guitarists and bassists, amps and cables will be provided.
Please note: We might ask you to do a few other things such as playing along with our band leader so we can assess your ability to keep time, or for some, your ability to solo.
If you don’t play a primary instrument:
We will assess your “music” ability in our percussion workshop. The percussion leader will show you how to play various percussion instruments and teach you a few rhythms to execute.
Dance
We will be teaching a dance sequence so that we can assess your dance/movement ability. Please bring comfortable dancewear and footwear to the audition. Please note:it’s quite possible we might ask you to do some technical exercises or try a style you’re not comfortable with. Just do your best with what you’ve been given.
Vocals
We would like to hear a verse and chorus of one of the below mentioned rock songs. I’ve offered three choices for both the girls and the boys. Just pick whichever song suits your voice best and memorize it. (We will have a CD player and a keyboard available to give starting pitches if needed).
Please note: We might ask you to do a few other things involving singing scales or learning a harmony line.

Just a Girl by No Doubt

( Male ) Foot in Mouth
Description:
Jordan’s girlfriend, Jessica, recently broke up with him because he blew her off to spend the night at Carrie Benson’s house. Jordan and Carrie are good friends. Here, he tries to convince Jessica that nothing happened. But the harder he tries, the more his words come out wrong.
Jordan: Hey Jessica. Oh C’mon. Can’t I talk to you for just a minute? Look, I know I was a jerk– (Beat.) Okay, a major jerk. And I don’t blame you for dumping me. Well, just a little. Joke – that was a joke! I’m sorry I blew you off last Saturday. But the only reason I did was because Carrie Benson was upset about Doug breaking up with her. She was lonely, she needed a friend, and she promised me a good time. Jess, wait! That’s not what I mean. I didn’t sleep with her. She didn’t want to. Hold up, hold up! That came out way wrong. What I’m trying to say is that she wanted me to spend the night, and I wanted to be with her. Not be with her, be with her! Don’t you understand? Every time I think of you, that little four letter word keeps flooding my head. You know, the “L” word? Does that happen when you think of me? It does?! (Beat.) Liar? That wasn’t exactly the word I had in mind.
( Male ) Taking Your Parents to Disneyland
Description:
A young man recounts a trip he took to Disneyland with his parents and the humiliating experience of riding a roller coaster with his Dad.
Hello… I would like to take a moment to talk to all of you about the dangers of taking your parents to Disneyland. First off, we are all here with a big group, and who wants to be discovered by a classmate when your mom is wearing Mickey Ears, and asking your little brother how to write a text message… then of course, there is your dad’s fascination with roller coasters. This could go one of 2 ways, either really fun if he likes all the same rides you do… or if your dad is like mine, then you should avoid them altogether. My dad made me wait in line for the highest… the fastest, and most exciting ride at Disney… Space Mountain… the line was forever, then we climb into a car that zips off… I started to question my dad about the 4 corndogs he had wolfed down while waiting in line… then it happened… As soon as we hit the first dip in the track …(WWWWaaaaarrrffff!!!! ) my dad HURLS!!! I think it must have hit some people in the cars behind us, because for being at Disney…. I sure heard a lot of BAD language… thank god Space Mountain is in the dark so no one knew who did it. If you go… I suggest sitting in the front.
( Female ) There’s Gotta Be a Better Way
Description:
Faith works at McDonald’s. She is having the day from hell. She has been pestered twice by the same customer. When the customer complains a third time, Faith loses it.
Faith: Ma’am, I replaced the first burger free cause it “didn’t taste right” to you. And the second burger cause you said it wasn’t cooked enough. Now you’re telling me that this burger is burnt?! You have got to be kidding me. Where do you think you are. This is McDonald’s! We ain’t serving no sirloin steak! $5.25 an hour and I gotta put up with the likes of you. I’ll tell you what. Why don’t you come back here, take my greasy apron and my stupid hat, and stand back here in 128 degree temperature and cook your own burger til you’re satisfied. Oh, and hey, don’t forgot you gotta smile nice for all the customers while you’re sweating to death and the French Fry boys are whispering perverted jokes!! No? Doesn’t sound like a good old time to you? Well then, I highly suggest you take that burger back to your little table, eat it, and think about how lucky you are that I didn’t smush an apple pie in your face. Have I made myself clear? Thank you. Have a nice day.
( Female ) TTYL
Description:
A girl recounts learning what’s “in” and what’s “out” while speaking in Text-Speak.

When I see it’s official… all experts have agreed that Justin Bieber is out and Simon Curtis is in!!!! Holy Jonas Brothers!!
